The next Snapdragon chipset series has not been officially confirmed so far, possibly called Snapdragon 895. However, rumors flew around that Samsung has gained a contract to produce the latest Qualcomm chipset as a successor to Snapdragon 888 series.
Even though Qualcomm is one of the largest chipmakers in the world, it does not have its own factory. Therefore, chipsets are usually manufactured by third-party manufacturers. Samsung and TSMC are usually the ones that produce chipset for Qualcomm. They will usually negotiate several contracts about the release of this high-end processor or chipset every year. Besides, the latest leaks from notebookcheck site indicated that Samsung has won a contract to manufacture the latest processor for Qualcomm, Snapdragon 895 with 4nm fabrication.
Should that happen Samsung will probably produce this Snapdragon chipset along with their own chipset Exynos 2200 series that will most likely come with a 4nm chipset too. This, of course, will make Samsung dominate the market share of high-end chipsets− Snapdragon 895 and Exynos 2200 that will be marketed in 2022.
Few months ago, Samsung was also rumored to be mass-producing the next generation Snapdragon X65 5G chipset using 4nm technology, so that it indicates that the Snapdragon 895 chipset will also be made by Samsung using the latest 4nm technology.
Will the performance and power efficiency of Snapdragon 895 and Exynos 2200 be affected as they will use Samsung’s 4nm technology? Which chipset will give the best performance? Will Exynos match Snapdragon’s performance or can it surpass it? Let’s see when it’s released.
